Casually Cute

Attending Essence Festival has become an annual tradition for me.

It’s great food, fun, and fellowship. There is so much to do within those three days. So you have to be ready to be mobile and chic.

There is a lot of walking. You may stroll through the convention center to be empowered, down Canal St. to people watch, or through the French Quarters to experience the essence of New Orleans. Regardless of what you do, you have to be adorable doing it.

When I pack for Essence; I like to pack light weight fabrics, cool clothing, and flat shoes because New Orleans is blazing hot in July. The flat shoes are for comfort due to all of the walking I know I will be doing. This look is a perfect example of me being chic in the streets. My sister by love owns a www.tresorcacheboutique.com

I purchased this cute white shoulder less top and distressed denim jeans from her for under $100. My sunglasses are from Clark Atlanta University’s book store for $14.99. I was in line paying for my daughter’s books for school and spotted these cute sunnies. My shoes were purchased on sale  for $149.00 from Tory Burch. My crossbody handbag is from Louis Vuitton. It was the perfect 36th birthday gift.

Bouquet

I normally wear black and white.

But for Father’s Day, I wanted to be my husband’s bouquet of flowers.

I wore a floral dress from Neiman Marcus Last Call by Donna Rico for $69. My legs are slim and the dress was wide near my knees. I had the bottom of the dress brought in a few inches to give me the penciled look. Alterations are great ways to customize and personalize clothing. With me being 5’2″ and wider in the hips, I have to get many clothing items altered to fit me just right.

I’m the queen of high-low shopping. I love mixing inexpensive items with expensive items. My clothing is usually $100 and under. But I typically splurge on my shoes, handbags, and jewelry. For this look, I wore yellow Gucci pumps that I purchased on sale for $300 and paired it with a faux snakeskin clutch from Nordstrom’s Rack for $20.

… You don’t have to spend a million bucks to be a beautiful bouquet.

Carry On

What do you pack in a carry on when you have thirty minutes to pack for a 24 hour getaway?

… I decided to pack light which included a dress, flip flops, sunglasses, and pajamas.

A maxi dress is one of my favorite summer essentials. Arden B. went out of business two years ago and I purchased five maxi dresses for under $60 all together. This particular one is great because of the way it flows. It’s very forgiving if you are a few pounds heavier or a few inches wider than you normally are. I love the tropical print on this dress. It’s so colorful and playful. It gives me an island girl vibe whether I’m in the Caribbean or state side.

I paired the printed maxi dress with my Tory Burch Thora Sandals in tan. These shoes are so comfortable, I have them in tan leather, black leather, beige snake skin, and black patent leather. Anything I love, I tend to buy in excess and multiple colors.

My good friend started a sunglass business this February and of course I had to support her. These mirrored sunnies are from her new business venture. Be sure to check out the latest styles on Instagram at @ohsoshadedsunglasses. You will fall in with the huge selection and inexpensive prices.
